Iranian Raisins
Iran has an impressive history of grape and raisin production, dating back hundreds of years. Globally, Iran stands first in number of varieties and quantity of raisins produced.
At present, more than 85 varieties of grapes are grown in Iran. The white seedless grape is used exclusively for all export raisins. Raisins produced from Iranian white seedless grapes are considered unique in the world in kind and quality. Excellent growing and harvesting conditions lead to a full, natural flavour, and prevent loss of vital nutrients. Iranian raisins have also been tested to be free of harmful materials.
The Iranian raisins have higher levels of sugar, useful salts and vitamins than raisins from many other countries. Vital nutrients such as protein, calcium, phosphorous, iron, vitamins (including A, B complex, and C) are found in high quantities. The high sugar content of the Iranian grape makes it possible to produce 35.9 kg raisin at 10-11% moisture content from 100 kg white seedless grapes (Iranian Industrial Research and Standard Institute, West Azerbaijan, 1997).
